morning, the tender didn't arrive due to rough weather. So, Gerry
Leighton, the station director, mentioned he was short of staff and
asked Jim if he would be prepared to present a programme. Jim was
astonished as he had never done anything like that before,
but within a couple of hours, he was on the air.
next weeks' mail arrived on the tender, Jim was overwhelmed by the
response he received, and that really started him off on a DJ career.
worked as a newsreader for the popular offshore station. The
working conditions on the ship were slapdash, but programmes continued,
along with the advertising.

Jim left the ship in March 1966.
took over as resident DJ at the Marquis Club in Wardour street, London
which gained him a three year contract. This allowed him to gain
contact to big names in the pop music business. After the contract expired, he went freelance as a mobile DJ.
Jim worked overnight between 2am and 6am on Radio Jackie from October 1984 and February 1985.
He re-joined Radio Caroline in 2005, from their studios in Kent, until December 2009.
Jim now presents two shows a week for Radio Northsea International Saturday evenings 6-7pm with Remembering the 60s and Friday evenings with Musical Memories between 10-11pm.
also does a "live" show for Swinging Radio England which can be
heard on Thursday evenings at 8.00pm, UK time. He also produces
recorded programmes as well, not only for S.R.E., but also our sister
station, Britain Radio where his "Sunday Cavalcade" programme, which features easy-listening music, can be heard every Sunday between 11.00am and 1.00pm, UK time.
Jim works for many other radio stations, one being Radio Seagull, where he presents a rock show on Friday afternoons.
presents a breakfast show on Susy Radio from Merstham in Surrey Monday
& Tuesday Mornings, and a 60s show on Monday nights.
Jim still has a programme on Radio Hillingdon, a hospital radio station based in Uxbridge, on Sundays.
On Wednesday afternoons you can hear Jim on Surreys' Brooklands Radio from Weybridge.
Jim is also a producer, and trains up-and-coming radio presenters.
